Where the information comes from

Our state guides describe each state's own unclaimed-property process. They are written from that state administrator's published material and from the statutes and administrative rules the administrator operates under. Where a guide states a rule, the rule belongs to the state, not to us.

Every guide links to the state's own free search. We would rather you use it directly than take our word for what it holds.

All property data we work with is public. We do not buy claim lists, we do not use non-public databases, and we do no skip-tracing.

What we will not publish

  • We do not publish what we think a named business owns. Our pages and our outbound messages describe what a search can do. They do not state your property, your amounts, how many records there are, or which states hold them.
  • We do not present an estimate as a fact. A figure on a state page is either that state's own published figure or it is labelled as what it is.
  • We do not give legal or professional advice. A guide describes a state's generic requirements. It does not tell you what to claim or what to argue, and it is not a substitute for advice about your situation.

Corrections

State rules change, and published guidance goes stale. If something on one of these pages is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will correct it.

Two things we will not do when we correct a page: quietly change a figure without changing the date on it, and leave a page saying something we already know to be wrong because nobody has complained yet.
